John Deere Team Championship 2008
Date: 22/07/2008
The 2008 John Deere Team Championship was held at Close House Golf Club on 17th July 2008. Twenty nine golf clubs entered teams, each made up of three players. The competition was organised by Greenlay with the format and rules laid down by John Deere. This is a nationwide competition with teams from across the UK competing. John Deere makes a donation to BIGGA for each team that enters and to GCSAI for each team entered in Ireland, for these organisations’ greenkeeper education and training activities.
Everyone came prepared for rain but the weather was kind and only managed a few showers. The competition was won by City of Newcastle Golf Club with Foxton Golf Club coming a close second and Tyneside Golf Club coming third. Prizes were awarded for nearest the pin on the 10th hole and longest drive on the 15th. Ben Chruszczewski of Bellingham Golf Club picked up the prize for nearest the pin and his colleague Matt Crofton won longest drive.
Many of the competitors remarked on the excellent condition of the course which we thank Brian Clark (Head Greenkeeper) and his team for. City of Newcastle Team will now progress to the National Final to be held at The Westin Turnberry Resort in Ayrshire on Thursday 21st August.
Congratulations to the City of Newcastle team and we wish them every success in the National Final!
